I am an avid reader of all things creepy and strange, and October is the best time of year to embrace atmospheric books that make the world look a little bit more ominous. I’ve rounded up some favorites, old and new, to inspire some mood-reading – whether it be by fire-light or lamp-light (or, you know, a properly lit room to protect your eyes).

Welcome the first of many Convos Behind the Counter! This regular segment will let you in on what we’re talking about behind the counter here at Dog-Eared Books.

As booksellers and heavy readers, us staff here at Dog-Eared Books have ready many amazing titles this year. But these books listed below are the cream of the crop (so far). Most are new this year, but some backlist titles are so good we couldn’t help but include them. Consider this our longlist for the best 2022 has to offer.

Grab a warm scarf, a steaming mug of tea, and settle in with one of these books—but make sure you only return to your school (if you go) in the light of day.
